Let's Start At the Very Beginning . . .

It all started in mid-March when my dad was asked to go to Cactus with the West Texas District Superintendent to shoot a promo video for the project (simply because he has a video camera and working knowledge of how to do a video). At the time there was no money to do anything and no plans to bring in anyone to staff it . . . it was just a "what-if" dream. God took it from there in a BIG way!

Dad sent us the video just to show us what he had done. However, after seeing the video, God stirred our hearts about how we could get involved. Maybe God wanted our church to spend a week there working? Maybe God wanted us to share our ideas/vision for what might happen there? Maybe God wanted us to move there? But we weren't looking to move . . . things at Taylor Avenue are going great, are You sure, God?!?!

We couldn't get away from the tugging feeling that God wanted us involved somehow. So we decided to send an e-mail to the DS about the project, just expressing how excited we were about what God was doing in Cactus. We know how DS's are, they get e-mails from pastors all the time . . . so, God, if you really are calling us there, You are going to have to show us. FLEECE #1 (See Judges 6 for the story of Gideon and his fleece.)

At the same time, the video was shown to the West Texas District Assembly and to the USA/Canada Regional Director. God began stirring the hearts of Nazarenes and the money started flowing in . . . enough to buy a 1.2 acre of land on the edge of town . . . enough to purchase a metal building to be erected by Work and Witness teams in the near future . . .

And, somehow God worked in that e-mail and stirred the DS to respond to us. As he put it, he gets e-mails all the time from pastors who are "called" to serve in the big Nazarene churches of West Texas, but never had he gotten an e-mail from pastors who might be called to serve in a tiny town of 3,000 immigrants and refugees. FLEECE #1 ANSWERED

Looking from the corner of the street onto the 1.2 acre of land that has been purchased for CNMC.

Looking towards the back of the 1.2 acre of land . . . Eli's loving the wide open West Texas spaces!

Welcome!

Welcome to our new blog, Under the Cactus Tree. We'll be using this blog as a journal following our new assignment as Directors of the Cactus Nazarene Ministry Center (CNMC) in Cactus, TX. Over the next few weeks as we prepare to move to Cactus, I'll try to bring you up to speed as to what we are doing, where we are going, and how we got there.

We covet your prayers as we make this transition. God is already doing great things in Cactus, TX and we are privileged to be a part of it!
